DECORATING FOR THE HOLIDAYS INSIDE & OUT
This past Saturday morning, I asked Amazon’s Alexa to play my “An Uncommon Christmas” playlist from Spotify, moved the game cabinet that sits in front of the living room window downstairs into my office, and pulled the Menard’s box that holds our 20+ year-old artificial tree from its storage space to assemble.
Even though I know there are prelit trees that literally take five minutes to put together, there’s something beautiful and almost therapeutic about my personal tradition of taking an hour or so to sort the old tree’s individual branches, set the pole up in the living room, and one-by-one spread out each branch and construct the tree, finishing it off with a gazillion white lights (that hopefully work).
A few weeks earlier, I was on a ladder installing multi-colored lights on the outside of the house, setting Frosty up on a timer in the backyard, and working with my better half to get Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus on a timer in the front yard too. Thankfully, unlike Clark W. Griswold, my LeafGuard gutters didn’t break off and fly through my neighbor’s window!
