OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN – A LITTLE MORE LOVE

Today I introduce a feature to the site which is a bit of a spin-off from Moteventure Reactions, where I listen and react to a song for the very first time. The spin-off, called “Another Listen” will highlight songs I’ve heard many times and have loved for one reason or another. I hope you enjoy it!

The year 1978 was at times shocking, inspiring, economically depressing and of course, entertaining. In November, cult leader Jim Jones commanded his followers to drink punch laced with poison in a mass suicide that shocked the nation. Earlier that year, Egypt and Israel signed the Camp David Peace Accords in an effort to secure peace in the region. In the United Kingdom, Louise Brown was born via invitro fertilization in July, becoming the world’s first “test tube baby”. Pope John Paul I died just 33 days after being selected as the leader of the Catholic Church. In June, the first “Garfield” comic strip was published.

Meanwhile in Hollywood, country music ingenue turned film star Olivia Newton-John worked on laying down tracks for her first studio album following her star-making turn in Paramount Pictures summer blockbuster “Grease”. Having made the transition in the film from virginal “Sandy 1” to spandex-clad “Sandy 2” in the finale of the film, Olivia was able to make a similar transition in her music career, resulting in the album “Totally Hot”, a cover featuring the singer decked out in leather from head to toe and sonically a more mature and rock-oriented sound.

Totally Hot is one of the most fun albums from Olivia Newton John. Total abandon is its trademark, the atmosphere lightened up a bit, and from top to bottom it is one of her most satisfying projects.

AllMusic

Wikipedia advises that beginning with her first single, “Til You Say You’ll be Mine” in 1966 through “Jolene” with Dolly Parton in 2023, Olivia Newton-John has released sixty-nine singles, twenty-six studio albums, six live albums, fourteen compilations and six soundtracks to date. All told, she’s sold more than 100 million albums and is listed as the 44th most successful artist of all time.

Olivia has won 4 Grammys from her 12 total career nominations. With numerous industry accolades to her credit, the British-born Aussie was most proud of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne, Australia, which incorporates art-based wellness methods alongside traditional therapies in the fight against cancer.

Today’s featured track is “A Little More Loveand is included on her tenth studio album, “Totally Hot” (1978). Released as the album’s lead single in October of that year, the song peaked at #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in the U.S., landing at #17 on the chart of biggest hits of that year.

After battling breast cancer on three separate occasions over a 30-year span, Olivia Newton-John passed away on August 8, 2022, and has been and will be greatly missed.
