Dolly Parton (1946–2026): A Light the World Will Never Forget

The world is grieving today. Dolly Parton — the Queen of Country, a Tennessee original, a beacon of generosity, humor, and heart — has died at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy that shaped generations of music lovers, dreamers, and storytellers.

Her family shared the news through an emotional video posted by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who described Dolly as someone who “never saw a door she couldn’t open” and who “farmed songs and happiness” throughout her life. Her team later confirmed that she had been undergoing treatment and spent her final days at Vanderbilt‑Ingram Cancer Center.

Across the world, tributes are pouring in — from Buckingham Palace’s Band of the Guards playing “9 to 5” to front‑page memorials honoring her unmatched impact on music and culture. She leaves behind not only timeless hits like Jolene, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You, but also a philanthropic legacy that includes her Imagination Library, which has gifted hundreds of millions of books to children worldwide.

Dolly spent her life giving joy. Today, the world gives its love back.

My “Our Ten” Dolly Parton Music List

In 2022, I was honored to include Dolly Parton as one of the earliest artists in my “Our Ten – The Music Series,” celebrating the ten records from her catalogue that have meant the most to me personally. Today, in tender gratitude for all she has given us, I’m returning to that list with a full heart to honor her legacy, her spirit, and the comfort her music has brought to so many of us. God bless.
