WHAT’S SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND?

I think many folks don’t understand the purpose of a devil’s advocate. Most people take it as an affront if someone looks at the opposite perspective and tactfully attempts to make the other individual see someone else’s point of view.

When I play devil’s advocate, it’s usually trying to make a person with “blinders” on to the problem see that there is more than one way to look at it, and to encourage them to be empathetic in the situation. I don’t necessarily agree with the other position, but nevertheless, I look at it from multiple angles.
