The Stars are Brightly Shining

On the twenty-third day of highlighting lesser known Christmas songs (or versions of classics I gravitate to each year), today’s song is “O Holy Night” by Third Day. Lifted from their 2006 album “Christmas Offerings”, lead singer Mac Powell injects the lyric with a gravelly grit that elevates it for the listener from it’s standard ballad interpretation.

Third Day

Formed in the mid-90’s, Third Day became a staple on Christian Rock radio with hits like “King of Glory”, “Come Together”, “God of Wonders”, “Tunnel”, “Call My Name”, and “I Need a Miracle”.

Successful albums include “Third Day”, “Time”, “Offerings: A Worship Album”, “Wire”, “Wherever You Are”, “Revelation”, “Move”,,”Miracle”, and “Lead Us Back: Songs of Worship”, and “Revival”.

Third Day has been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards, taking home four. Additionally, they’ve been the recipients of 24 GMA awards, and one American Music Award.

In March of 2018, Third Day announced their farewell to fans, disbanding in July of that same year. Their final release was 2017’s “Revival” album, which harkened back sonically to the early days of their amazing career.
