On the ninth day of highlighting lesser known Christmas songs (or those you may have forgotten) my selection today is a 180 degree turn from yesterday…”Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight)” by The Ramones. The song is the closing track from the 1989 album, “Brain Drain”, and features a definite 50’s inspired sound converging with a punk rock beat (naturally).

The Ramones were formed in New York City in 1974, and are often credited with being the first true punk rock band. Although not hugely a commercial success, they are considered highly influential to many bands and artists in the US.
Best known for their cult classic hit, “Blitzkrieg Bop”, they are on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” at #26, and the second greatest band of all time (behind the Beatles) by Spin magazine (circa 2002).
Lastly, the video for thus song is simply a classic that must be viewed. Check it out below…and please…no fighting.
If you’d like to listen to the playlist as it’s created this month, search for “An Underrated Christmas – 2020” on Spotify (I’ll add a direct link once more tracks are revealed).
As always, if there is a holiday song you want me to hear and/or highlight here, add it in the comments below. Enjoy your (holi)day!
