The Heart of Christmas

On the eighth day of highlighting lesser known Christmas songs (or those you may have forgotten) my selection today is one of my very favorites…”The Heart of Christmas” by Matthew West. The song is the title track from his 2011 holiday album. The set also features “One Last Christmas” which details the sad but uplifting true story of Dax, a child who is diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and whom doctors feel will not make it to Christmas. His family and community and eventually the world band together to turn their entire town into full-blown Christmas early for Dax. Additionally, the album includes duets with Vince Gill, Mandisa, and Amy Grant.

Matthew West is a 3-time Dove award winner from among 15 nominations, and has been nominated for 5 Grammys. His hits include “More”, “You Are Everything”, “The Motions”, and “Hello, My Name Is”.

In addition to his musical career, West has also dabbled in acting, including a cameo appearance in the movie version of his song, “The Heart of Christmas” in 2011. His most recent album release is “Brand New” in 2020.

If you’d like to listen to the playlist as it’s created this month, search for “An Uncommon Christmas – 2020” on Spotify (I’ll add a direct link once more tracks are revealed).

Other Moteventurous Christmas Songs from this artist:

As always, if there is a holiday song you want me to hear and/or highlight here, add it in the comments below. Enjoy your (holi)day!
