On the seventh day of highlighting lesser known Christmas songs (or those you may have forgotten) my selection shifts to a rock icon in Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ and their recording of “Christmas All Over Again”. The song is the lead off track on “A Very Special Christmas 2”, the second in the well-known series. Released in 1992, the set is the 21st best selling Christmas album in US history. It also features performances from Aretha Franklin, Jon Bon Jovi, Ann & Nancy Wilson (of Heart), and Frank Sinatra.

With the Heartbreakers formed in 1976 in Florida, Petty has had a long string of hits, with “Refugee”, “The Waiting”, “American Girl”, and “Breakdown” just to name a few.
As a solo artist, Petty also had a number of hits, namely “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Stevie Nicks, “I Won’t Back Down”, “Free Fallin'”, and “Runnin’ Down a Dream”, among others.
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Petty died in October of 2017 after being discovered unconscious at his home, not breathing and suffering full cardiac arrest. Petty is a 3-time Grammy winner from 18 total nominations.
If you’d like to listen to the playlist as it’s created this month, search for “An Underrated Christmas – 2020” on Spotify (I’ll add a direct link once more tracks are revealed).
As always, if there is a holiday song you want me to hear and/or highlight here, add it in the comments below. Enjoy your day!
