Casting Crowns’ “I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day” is my selection for Day 4 of recognizing under-rated but awesome Christmas songs.
When contemplating my favorite songs to celebrate Christmas, “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” had never been up for consideration until I listened to Casting Crowns’ version featured on their 2008 album “Peace on Earth”. It’s ironic and chilling how much the lyrics of a song written from a poem in 1863 apply to our world in 2020…”For hate is strong and mocks the song, of peace on Earth, good will to men…”
Casting Crowns have won one Grammy award from 9 nominations, and have also been Dove and American Music Award winners. Their most recent release is 2018’s “Only Jesus”.
Check it out via the link below and have a great holiday!
As an example of a message he wanted people to hear, he (Mark Hall) gave “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day”, a song written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow about his rediscovery of hope amidst several personal tragedies. Hall felt that the song’s message of hope was one that his kids and their generation needed to hear.
