On our fifth day of highlighting lesser known Christmas songs (or lesser known versions of standards), my selection moves into the world of country music with Martina McBride’s version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, a track from her 1998 album, “White Christmas”.

With hits like “Independence Day”, “Valentine” (with Jim Brickman), “”A Broken Wing”, and “I Love You” (from the film “Runaway Bride”), it’s easy to see how effortless it is for McBride to create a classic Christmas album in “White Christmas”. Her vocals are simply stunning and the arrangements suit her to a tee.
Kansas-born McBride is a 4-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, with 14 Grammy nominations to her credit. Her most recent album release is “It’s the Holiday Season” in 2018.
If you’d like to listen to the playlist as it’s created this month, search for “An Underrated Christmas – 2020” on Spotify (I’ll add a direct link once more tracks are revealed).
