Dogs or cats?

What a great question! In fact, it’s a question we posed in May of 2022 as part of our “This…or That?” series here at Moteventure. Presently, dogs are leading cats in the minds of our readers, but feel free to click the link and cast your vote.

Growing up, we had many dogs, including my childhood favorite (a mutt named Ralph). I also had a black lab puppy for a short time named Dusty. Unfortunately, I was walking him off leash one day in the countryside where we lived and he had ambled bit farther ahead of me. Out of the blue, a pickup truck came down the gravel road, a guy got out and picked up my pup, got back in and drove away. That was a heartbreaking moment I’ll never forget.

Today, we have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Scamp. Living up to his name, I’ve even published a prior post celebrating this short-legged ball of energy.

I’ve also had several cats over my lifetime as well. As a child, my favorite was a beautiful stray my older sister named Mieuxette (myoo-zet), who had several litters of kittens over the years living in our household.

More recently, my daughter grew up with two cats, Hutchess and Pemberley (both having names that could be a post on their own). Pemberley passed away in March of 2021, and was the subject of a post here on the site as well, dealing with saying goodbye to a pet.

Although I’ve loved all my pets throughout my life, I think the unconditional love of a dog vs. the independent spirit of a cat leaves more positives for me in the dog column. You could simply say I’m just part of the “pupper” class.
