I’ve never been a big believer in the idea that getting healthier requires completely reinventing your life.
Sometimes it’s much less dramatic than that.
Drink some water. Take a walk. Eat a few more berries. Get up from the chair. Go to bed when you said you were going to go to bed.
None of those things are particularly exciting. And that’s kind of the point.
The habits that actually stick tend to be the ones that are simple enough to work into real life — not the perfectly organized life we imagine we’re going to start living on Monday.
So, whether you’re reading this around lunchtime as a little reset or just looking for a few easy things to add to your routine, here are ten worth considering.
💧 1. Start Your Day With Water
This one is almost ridiculously simple, which is probably why it’s easy to overlook.
Have a glass of water when you get up. It’s a small win, but small wins are how routines get started.
🍓 2. Add a Half Cup of Berries
Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries — take your pick.
They’re an easy way to add fruit and nutrients to your day without making eating healthier feel like a major project. Toss them into breakfast, yogurt, oatmeal, or just eat them by the handful.
🧘 3. Stretch for 60 Seconds
You don’t need a 45-minute stretching routine.
Take a minute. Stretch your arms, shoulders, back, legs — whatever feels tight.
Especially if you’ve been sitting for a while, sixty seconds of movement can feel surprisingly good.
🚶 4. Move Your Body Every Day
This doesn’t have to mean joining a gym or suddenly becoming a fitness fanatic.
Walk around the block. Take the stairs. Go for a short walk (quality time with my pup Scamp!). Put on a song and dance around the house.
Ten minutes is still ten minutes.
The important part is getting out of the chair and moving.
😴 5. Protect Your Sleep
This is one I’m increasingly convinced is worth taking seriously.
Most adults need roughly 7–9 hours of sleep, but getting enough sleep isn’t always as easy as simply deciding to do it.
Set a reasonable bedtime. Give yourself a little wind-down time. And when possible, don’t treat sleep as the thing you sacrifice when the day gets busy.
🥗 6. Build a More Balanced Plate
You don’t need to completely overhaul your diet (I keep telling myself that).
Try thinking in simple terms: protein + fiber + colorful fruits or vegetables.
It doesn’t have to be Instagram-worthy. It just needs to be something you can actually keep doing.
😌 7. Give Yourself a Daily Stress Reset
Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop.
Take a few deep breaths. Step away from the screen. Sit quietly for a few minutes. Journal. Meditate. Take a walk. Write a blog entry…or a song.
Whatever works for you.
We tend to think of stress management as something that requires a major lifestyle change, when sometimes what we really need is five minutes of quiet.
🦷 8. Floss Every Day
Yes, I’m putting flossing on the list.
It’s not exactly the most exciting health habit, but it’s one of those little things that is easy to ignore until your dentist (or that poor dental hygienist) reminds you that you’ve been ignoring it.
Make it part of the routine and don’t give yourself the opportunity to debate it every night.
🌞 9. Wear Sunscreen
This is another one where consistency matters more than drama.
Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher when appropriate, particularly when you’re going to be spending time outside.
Future-you will probably appreciate present-you making this a habit.
🧍 10. Break Up All That Sitting
This one is especially easy to forget if you spend a lot of time at a desk or in front of a computer.
Stand up.
Stretch.
Walk around for a minute. You do know your Apple Watch or Fitbit even remind you to do it.
Get some water.
You don’t need to turn every hour into a workout. Just don’t let “I’m busy” become an excuse to stay planted in the same chair all day.
The Bigger Point
None of these habits is revolutionary.
That’s actually what I like about them.
We spend a lot of time looking for the one big thing that’s going to transform our lives, when improvement is often much more boring than that.
It’s the glass of water.
The extra serving of fruit.
The walk you almost skipped.
Going to bed instead of scrolling for another hour.
Getting out of the chair.
Doing the little things often enough that eventually they don’t feel like “healthy habits” anymore. They just become what you do.
So don’t try to do all ten tomorrow.
Pick two.
Make those automatic.
Then add another one.
That’s how momentum starts.
