This morning’s in‑my‑car video was one of those quick, honest drops — the kind where you hit record before you talk yourself out of it. I wanted to share the backstory behind the new track I’m building for a future album, because it’s one of those ideas that started as a joke and turned into something real.
Here’s the setup: Whenever I do something positive — big or small — and casually point it out, my wife hits me with the same line. “Do you want a medal or a cookie?” It’s playful. It’s teasing. It’s also… kind of accurate.
Because sometimes we do want credit for the good things we’re trying to do. Sometimes we want someone to notice the effort, the growth, the intention. And sometimes we just want a cookie.
But the more I thought about it, the more it became something deeper. I don’t want to be the guy who does good things for applause. I want to be the guy who does them because it’s who I am — or at least who I’m trying to be.
That’s where Good Guy was born. A mix of humor and honesty. A song about showing up better, not for a prize, but because it matters. A track that lets me laugh at myself while still saying something true. I added the good guys come with bad goodbyes for dramatic impact!
The video explains the spark, but the song is where the real story lives. And as it keeps taking shape, I’m realizing it’s one of the most simple and fun things I’ve written — not heavy, not dramatic, just real.
