Describe a positive thing a family member has done for you.
When we first stepped into our new home, I felt a rush of emotions flood over me.
The thought of dipping into our hard-earned savings for the down payment made me feel incredibly exposed and financially vulnerable.
The idea of something going wrong with the house and not having the skills to deal with it was utterly intimidating.
There were urgent home improvements, like painting the exterior, that couldn’t wait. And as if that wasn’t enough, just two weeks in, we discovered that the city was going to repave our street, with a temporary road cutting through our front yard!
Both mentally and financially, we were stretched to our limit.
Then, my in-laws swooped in.
They rolled up their sleeves and scrubbed the empty house clean.
They even bought a scythe to tackle the 4-foot-tall weeds in what would become our garden.
By the time they headed back to their own home, a two-hour drive away, our new home was taking shape.
That night, we fell asleep with a deep sense of achievement and a significant decrease in stress.
That was 24 years ago.
So much has changed since those early days of being homeowners, but I’ll leave that story for another time.
To my in-laws and their incredible can-do spirit, I will always be profoundly thankful.
Peace!
