What are your biggest challenges?

My biggest challenges are likely nothing new to you. You probably could tick some of them off on your own list for 2024, with the final list looking a lot like my own. Here’s what comes to mind:

FITNESS & NUTRITION

For me, it’s both difficult and very easy at times to be critical of myself. Like most of us, I have natural insecurities that impact how I interact with others. I try to live the adage “who cares what they think?”, knowing that try as I might, I usually do.

In 2023, I challenged myself to become healthier by focusing more on my nutrition goals while still maintaining my exercise routine. In the end, I dropped more than 25 pounds from my frame.

Success last year necessitates keeping this on my challenges list for 2024.

FOCUS & BE PRESENT

A multitude of ideas come to me throughout each day, whether I’m taking down Christmas lights, walking my Corgi Scamp, or waking up at 3 a.m. with no hope of drifting back to sleep.

Some are excellent thoughts, while others leave me wondering what I was thinking in the cold light of day.

The problem with those internal discussions is that I’m not the best at multitasking while things are happening outside my own head. I think they call it “ active listening”, at least that’s what my wife calls it.

The awesome part about actively listening and being present in the moment is that it makes your relationships stronger, your work more accurate and productive, and by default your very life richer.

Quite a rewarding challenge.

THE NOVEL

Since the day more than 10 years ago when I first began formulating a story in my head that I loosely tied to the Biblical “mark”, I delayed putting the words in my head down on metaphorical paper until 2022. Even then, I used Microsoft Word.

In order to draw new readers to my site, I decided to take out two birds with a stone I called “Relentless”. Write the novel and hopefully appeal to enough readers to increase my subscribers (nearly 1,600 and counting)!

So, in 2024 my challenge will be to increase my writing sessions to finish the novel so I begin work on my next book, “Visionary”.

THE BLOG

Keeping the content engaging and fresh is my challenge and goal for 2024. With that in mind, I hope you’ll take a minute or two to complete our upcoming survey on what you like (and dislike) about the Moteventure blog.

YOU AND ME AGAINST THE WORLD?

On a personal side, I think we as humans can always strive to simply be better people. Every day, it’s easy to log onto social media and find posts that are simply back and forth arguments without any restraint or dignity, usually about the dumbest things.

What is pushed to the forefront in our society today? Defensiveness. Impulsivity. Fake News and Bias. Being easily offended. Mental health leading to tragedy. Lawlessness.

I think the biggest challenge facing myself and everyone in the world is to use our brains, be kind but not naive, strive to leave the world better than you found it, and try not to be divisive.

Tall order? I’d have to say I agree. Happy 2024!

Starting my own blog is one fun challenge! Raising 4 wild toddlers might be my most rewarding and paying for those said 4 toddlers is my hardest challenge! Cheers to a New Year!
