A MOTEVENTUROUS COOKBOOK: SCAMP’S FAVORITE HOMEMADE DOG FOOD

Nourishing, delectable ingredients for your furry friend!

Having a Pembroke Welsh Corgi is quite the adventure, especially when it comes to mealtime. Scamp possesses the remarkable ability to detect the opening of a shredded cheese bag from several rooms away, and even a frozen pizza doesn’t escape his radar! His love for the game “Find It!” is unparalleled. Just take him into another room, instruct him to stay, then sneak off to hide a treat somewhere in the house. When you yell “Find it!”, he comes sprinting like a child at an Easter egg hunt. It’s like living with a furry food detective and a professional hide-and-seek champion rolled into one!

MIXING IT UP FOR DINNER

Just like us, dogs love mixing things up in their meals. And we all want to spoil our furry friends with nutritious food that’ll keep them by our side for as long as possible. This dinner recipe has been a hit for years!

GREAT, BUT WHAT ABOUT BREAKFAST?

When paired with yogurt, blueberries, cottage cheese, and even a bit of pineapple for breakfast, this simple dog food recipe turns our foodie pup into a joyous, wriggling ball of happiness!

So, no need to wait any longer, here’s the recipe we’ve made countless times that our Scampy-Corg always loves. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1-1/2 cups brown rice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 pounds ground turkey (we usually grab the tube-variety)
  • 3 cups baby spinach, chopped
  • 2 carrots, shredded
  • 1 zucchini, shredded
  • 1/2 cup peas, canned or frozen
DIRECTIONS:
  1. In a large saucepan, add 3 cups water and cook rice according to package instructions, and then set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat (we actually use a large skillet instead).
  3. Add ground turkey and cook until browned (3-5 minutes), crumbling the turkey as it cooks.
  4. Stir in spinach, carrots, zucchini, peas and brown rice and continue cooking until the spinach has wilted and the mixture is heated through (about 3-8 minutes).
  5. Let cool completely.

Once fully cooked, you can divide into single servings using baggies, note the date and freeze it. Personally, we use simple canning jars that last a small number of days in the fridge.

When you are ready to serve, you can defrost the bag (or the jar) in the fridge overnight and drop a serving into a cup and microwave it for 30 seconds.

We mix a tablespoon or so with Scamp’s dry kibble and add a bit of bone broth as well to give it a bit more flavor. He’s never refused it yet!
