Daily writing prompt
What books do you want to read?

My favorite genres are similar to what I love to watch on TV. Mysteries, suspense, thrillers with a bit of comedy and drama mixed in for good measure. I also enjoy reading biographies and self-improvement books, with some true crime thrown in there too!

What specific books do I have on my “to read” list right now?

From “Magnum, P.I.” to “Three Men & A Baby” to “Blue Bloods,” Tom Selleck has always been an amazing combination of every-man and A-List Hollywood star, skillfully navigating a career that spans decades. His unique charm and rugged good looks have captivated audiences, making him a household name while maintaining a relatable quality that resonates with fans from all walks of life. His portrayal of Frank Reagan on “Blue Bloods” felt every bit like your own father (or grandfather) to most of us viewers, embodying the wisdom, strength, and warmth associated with family patriarchs. Selleck’s ability to convey deep emotions through subtle expressions and poignant dialogue solidifies his role as a beloved figure in American television, allowing fans to connect with their own familial experiences and values, ultimately making his character an enduring symbol of integrity and compassion in a complex world.

I have recently come to appreciate Ruth Ware’s skills as an author after completing her 2023 novel “Zero Days.” I now find myself eagerly anticipating more English-centric narratives and intricate plotlines reminiscent of Agatha Christie, particularly in this novel that explores the dynamics of a couple embroiled in a reality show that has taken a perilous turn.

While I’m a creature of habit by nature, with bad habits occasionally popping up, I find it exciting to channel those same habit-forming techniques to cultivate good habits. Here comes this book that appears perfectly designed to tackle that challenge. I’m eager for this old dog to learn some uplifting new tricks!

Reflecting on my experience reading “Presumed Innocent” years ago, enjoying the Harrison Ford adaptation, and recently diving into the Apple TV series with Jake Gyllenhaal, it’s clear that revisiting this story with the sequel this winter is a perfect choice. I’m eager to crack it open (or listen to the audiobook), and given Turow’s impressive track record, I have no doubt it will be another thrilling read.

This recent number one book sounds like a fascinating read in light of all the mental-health related crimes we’ve seen on the uptick over the past decade. It delves deeply into the psychological factors that contribute to these alarming trends, examining how societal pressures and stigma can influence individuals’ mental well-being. With a blend of compelling narratives and expert insights, the author not only highlights the urgency of addressing mental health issues but also aims to foster a greater understanding of the complexities involved. As we seek solutions to mitigate these crimes, this book presents an important perspective that may resonate with readers and encourage meaningful conversations about mental health and its implications in our communities.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but sometimes things don’t seem like they fully line up or appear logical, leading you to wonder what the truth actually is, especially with anything being disseminated by the government. In an age where information is abundant, it often feels like the more we learn, the less clarity we actually possess. So many narratives clash, leaving the public in a fog of confusion and skepticism, particularly when critical issues arise that seem to be cloaked in secrecy. The official statements often come peppered with jargon and vague assurances, which only serve to raise more questions than answers. This persistent questioning and doubt drive many to explore alternative theories, hoping to uncover a hidden reality that is not being shared with the masses, thus fueling a growing culture of disbelief and speculation about the motives behind government communications.

Reading “Relic” many years ago completely swept me away into the thrilling depths of the monster in the museum plot-line, igniting an insatiable passion for every Preston & Child novel that followed. Their unique blend of storytelling is a perfect fusion of Michael Crichton’s pulse-pounding intensity, Stephen King’s gripping suspense, and just the right sprinkle of Dickensian flair, creating an irresistible reading experience that keeps me yearning for more. This is the book I’m reading now.

One of my all-time favorite authors, Koontz has consistently captivated me with his brilliant storytelling, particularly in “Intensity.” He truly shines when he bypasses excessive description and dives straight into the action. Recently, he has embraced the supernatural even more (who can resist the allure of the “Odd Thomas” series?), and I have no doubt that this is the exciting direction he takes in his latest novel.

Tim Matheson’s memoir offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of a seasoned actor and director who has navigated the dynamic landscape of Hollywood for decades. His experiences, from his early days on iconic TV series to his work in film, present a unique perspective on the industry, filled with both triumphs and challenges. The anecdotes he shares not only provide insight into his creative process but also highlight the evolution of a beloved public figure. Reading his memoir promises to be a rich journey through the art of storytelling and the personal growth that accompanies a life in the spotlight.

What is it about people moving into, inheriting, or finding themselves inescapably drawn to old dilapidated houses that are (naturally) haunted? These relics of the past, with their creaking floorboards and shrouded histories, seem to beckon to those seeking a connection to something greater than themselves. This novel, “The Haunting of Ashburn House,” seems to play right into our collective obsession with hauntings, conjuring images of long-forgotten memories trapped within the walls and spirits lingering in the dark corners. The allure of uncovering the stories behind these ghostly presences creates a mesmerizing narrative that speaks to our deepest curiosities and fears, inviting readers to ponder what lies beyond the veil of the living.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN

As I prepare to delve into these captivating titles, each promising a unique blend of adventure, insight, and intrigue, I can’t help but feel excited about the literary journeys ahead. From thrillers that keep my heart racing to profound narratives that challenge my perspective, this year’s reading list is bound to enrich my understanding of the world. I invite you to share the books you’re eager to explore in 2025 as well! What stories are you looking forward to reading? Let’s inspire one another with our literary aspirations and create a vibrant community of book lovers.
