AUGUST REFLECTION

August has proven to be a month filled with thought-provoking and yet fun content to create for the blog. The month commenced with a reflective piece on my favorite reaction video tracks, followed by imagining my life in an alternate universe. I curated a list of my ten favorite songs by the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and pondered what exactly motivates me.

With the first of the “ber” months (September, October, November and December) upon us, I thought I’d take a quick look at some fascinating facts about the month of SEPTEMBER!

In ancient Rome, September was not only dedicated to the god of fire, Vulcan, but it also marked the culmination of the grape harvest, a significant event in the agricultural calendar. The rich tapestry of festivities and religious observances during this time reflected the deep significance of the month of September in ancient Roman culture.

“September” by Earth, Wind & Fire is a timeless classic that seamlessly blends R&B, funk, and disco. Released in 1978, the song continues to captivate audiences with its upbeat rhythm and soulful vocals, ensuring its place as a beloved staple at gatherings worldwide.

September 11, 2001, reshaped the world, marking the worst terrorist attack on US soil. Four commercial airliners were hijacked, with two crashing into the Twin Towers, another into the Pentagon, and the fourth crash-landing in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to regain control from the terrorists. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to end slavery in the territories held by the Confederacy on September 22, 1862.

One of the biggest events of the year, ‘Oktoberfest,’ starts off in Germany during September, stretching all the way to October. It’s a huge festival where you see colorful dresses and a lot of singing, dancing, drinking, and fun! (kidadl.com)

The first newspaper printed in the US was the Publick Occurrences Both Foreign and Domestick on September 25, 1690, in Boston. It was short-lived, as the British authorities stopped its publication due to displeasure with its contents. (Factsite.com)
