WHAT IM READING NOW (Daily Prompt)

What book are you reading right now?

The book I’m currently reading is a memoir by a Scottish actor who embarks on a journey of self-discovery as he attempts to walk the nearly 100 mile West Highland Way in Scotland’s Highlands.

It’s fascinating how he pivots back and forth between his struggles to become a successful actor and the rugged walk he chose to take on a whim between projects.

The book title “Waypoints” is an apt one, as the parallels between the walk and recounting his deeply personal story take place in stages with daunting challenges along the way.

If you haven’t yet surmised the author’s name, I’m talking about “Outlander” star Sam Heughan.

Sam opens up to share his views on family, ambition, dreams and disappointments with candor, humor and honesty.

He details the impact of fame and dealing with a public that at times confuses an actor with the character he plays. Yet you sense he is a people pleaser who doesn’t want to let down his fans. With that personality type, he meets a woman at the start of his walk who recognizes and greets him as a person on a walk rather than a famous actor.

You quickly realize that he was no overnight sensation. It took practice, change and most importantly, perseverance to become the successful person Sam is today.
