Have you ever had surgery? What for?
I worked a bit last evening on today’s intended post (“Our Top 10 Posts from June”) with the intent on publishing the new month’s list today.
Unfortunately, this morning I discovered my Centurylink internet service is down, and after a live chat that didn’t solve the issue, and after rebooting my modem repeatedly, a tech from the company will need to inspect the line…in a week. A WEEK???
So, with my remote work schedule looming mid-week, I’m hoping the service somehow rights itself in the interim.
As for the blog, I will use the Daily Prompts as entries until the service is up and running again. Thank you so much for continuing to support and visit the site!
Now, on to my surgical history!
Earlier this year, I did a standard workout at my local gym, consisting of 3 simple exercises: 10 push-ups, 1 minute on the bike, and then run a lap, repeated 10 times in that order to complete the workout.
I felt great throughout the session, but later on that evening, I felt my left knee tightening up and my gait taking on a slight limp.
To make a long story short, I ended up tearing (for the second time in 10 years) my meniscus.
After visiting my orthopedic surgeon, getting a pre-op physical (that was a story in itself), and having an MRI to verify the diagnosis, the knee was fixed within a half hour or so via arthroscopic surgery.
Those first few days were filled with a lot of upper body moves to get up and plenty of hopping on one leg to get around, particularly up and down the stairs.
Now that I’m nearly two months out from the procedure, my knee is much better, although I still have fun (not) getting up from being on the ground. I can lightly jog, but there are no tuck jumps in my future any time soon!
If you look back into May posts, you’ll see several entries that literally link to my surgery experience as I researched the topic. Lastly, should you ever face this type of injury, definitely spring for the machine that circulates ice water around your knee via a cuff. It’s worth every penny!
UPDATE: THE INTERNET SERVICE WAS RESTORED AT ABOUT 11 AM THIS MORNING! Look for “Our Top 10 Posts from June” tomorrow!
