GO AHEAD, MAKE YOUR CHOICE!

With the live action version of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” in theatres now, it got me reminiscing about when the animated version was first released. With the VHS cassette in hand (which we have to this day with THAT inappropriate cover), back in the day my daughter was fully head over heels for Ariel, Prince Eric, King Triton, Flounder, and Sebastian. She wasn’t quite as enamored with Ursula of course. With that toddler voice, she’d say “Mermad?” to let us know she wanted to watch this first of the new-era Disney classics. When the credits rolled, she’d look at us with those big brown eyes and say “again?” Rewind and start over.

Believe it or not, we have an old video recording somewhere where my daughter sings “Part of Your World” like she was performing at the Academy Awards.

So for today’s “This…or That”, I thought I’d present a poll on which Disney Princess takes the crown in a popularity contest here on Moteventure.

THE FASCINATING FACTS:

  • Anna & Elsa from “Frozen” are not officially considered to be princesses by Disney.
  • Pocahontas is the only princess to be based upon an actual person.
  • Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” was originally scripted to be blond, but her hair color was changed to red to avoid confusion with Daryl Hannah’s character in “Splash”.
  • Princess Aurora in “Sleeping Beauty” has the least dialogue of all the princesses.
  • Belle (Beauty & the Beast) is the only person in her hometown to wear blue, signifying she is an outsider.
  • Jasmine is the only princess to not be the main character in the film…Aladdin in this case.
  • Snow White is the only Disney Princess to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • Merida (Brave) is the only princess to not sing in the movie.
  • Disney has a steadfast rule that Disney Princesses must be animated, making Star Wars’ Princess Leia ineligible. Fans have collected more than 100,000 signatures to implore Disney to change this rule.
