Daily writing prompt
What was the last thing you searched for online? Why were you looking for it?

You’re at the movie theater, watching a great film when you see an actor online and can’t quite remember where you’ve seen them before. Sound familiar? If you’d been home, you would have used IMDB or a similar site to identify that obscure connection.

Instant answers to all of life’s questions is the very tenet of the internet and is part and parcel of life for most of us today. With Siri, Alexa, and other personal assistants, you don’t even need to type your inquiry.

So, that leads me to the crux of today’s prompt question. What were the last relevant things I’ve recently searched for online? Here are a handful of examples (with the obligatory reason as well):

IS IT OVER YET?

While watching TV in the evenings, I often find myself multitasking with my phone. Last night, during “Alone”, I came across a social media post asking readers to share the saddest song they could think of. Initially, “I Think His Name Was John” by Reba McEntire came to mind, but it was already on the list. I instead suggested a song by Wynonna Judd, though I initially couldn’t recall the artist. Thank goodness for the search engine!

MACKINAC ISLAND

The Outer Banks vacation we took prior to the pandemic was a great blend of relaxation and cool sights (I love lighthouses). While I grilled burgers the other night, I couldn’t help but reminisce about that week, and the idea of Mackinac Island sprang to mind. It offers a similar laid-back, nautical atmosphere, but with the added allure of being closer to home.

ZYRTEC (FOR DOGS)

Our Corgi Scamp has been dealing with strong skin allergies for the past few summers, and this current hot summer is proving to be no exception. We have worked with supplements, creams, allergy serum, allergy shots, and frequent baths with medicated shampoo, but the results have been limited.

It is concerning to see him wearing a cone for so much of the day to prevent him from chewing and licking his paws to the bone. In another attempt to alleviate his discomfort, I decided to research the use of Zyrtec for dogs online. Our vet had approved its use for Scamp last year, but we had not yet administered it in 2024.

THE GILLETTE FATHER/SON GUYS

I’d seen the commercial a number of times, and then one night recently I realized the actors looked like they could be actual father and son. Naturally, I had to find out if my suspicions were true or not.

A few search string entries and I had my answer.

CUTTING

Over the past year, I have put in the hard work to shed around 20-25 pounds without making drastic changes to my diet or spending all my time at the gym. I have been consistently maintaining my weight after reaching my goal, but a few extra pounds have crept back on, pushing me over the 200-pound mark, a situation I am determined to rectify. With this in mind, I conducted an online search for an effective cutting workout for the gym. Furthermore, I have made a firm commitment to avoid consuming any form of ice cream until I am back under 200 pounds!
