With March being Women’s History Month, I thought it would be a great opportunity to showcase my thoughts on some of the greatest ladies now and throughout history.

As I was putting today’s post together, many song titles crossed my mind to incorporate in the post’s title. Among them were Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like a Woman”, Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and even “Girls, Girls, Girls” by Mötley Crüe. But those titles didn’t quite fit with what I wanted to convey on the historical contributions of women throughout history (particularly that song by Mötley Crüe!).

In 2005, the late Olivia Newton-John released an album titled “Stronger Than Before” exclusively at Hallmark stores for a short time before it became available digitally and internationally. Focused on providing inspiration for women having had or had gone through breast cancer, among the tracks on the album was a song whose title and lyrics served to recognize the power, beauty and resilience of the fairer sex.

Joining ONJ on the track were Delta Goodrum, Patti LaBelle, Amy Sky, Amy Holland, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Mindy Smith, and Diahann Carroll, and the song has since become an anthem of inspiration, encouragement and understanding for those impacted by all forms of cancer.

“Adapted from Maya Angelou’s 1978 poem of the same name, this song is a heartfelt, sensuous celebration of the experience of womanhood. When Amy Sky asked Dr. Angelou for permission to adapt the poem, the poet enthusiastically agreed, saying, ‘We need to be proud of who we are.’”

WHO ARE THE MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN IN YOUR LIFE?

Even though I’m enamored by the efforts of Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, Sally Ride, Katherine Hepburn and others (ONJ naturally), if I’m being honest, the most influential women in my own life are those within my own family.
