I came across this suggested recipe online recently and being it’s the weekend, I thought I’d give it a shot.

Since I was a child, I’ve always loved frozen Snickers bars, and it’s suggested that the softness of the banana and the crunchiness of the nuts mixed with chocolate in this recipe resembles the nougat and chocolate-y goodness of the real thing. Plus, the final step is popping them in…wait for it…the FREEZER!

Mars, Inc.

So, how do you make them? It’s pretty simple:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Bananas
  • Smooth Peanut Butter
  • Peanuts, Pecans or Almonds (halves, slivers, or pieces)
  • Chocolate Chips or Hershey’s Syrup
  • Course salt

TIME TO PREPARE:

  • 5 minutes
  • Complete in 10 minutes

DIRECTIONS:

  • Place a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet
  • Slice the bananas into two halves
  • Slice the banana halves in two lengthwise
  • Spread a thin layer of peanut butter on the flat side of the banana sections
  • Place the banana sections on the wax paper
  • Sprinkle the nuts over the peanut butter
  • Drizzle melted chocolate chips (or the syrup) over the banana, peanut butter & nuts
  • Finally, sprinkle a bit of the salt over the “bars”
  • Put the cookie sheet in the freezer
  • Take a “bar” from the freezer and let it sit out for 5 minutes…and then enjoy!

MY REVIEW:

With the sweetness of the peanut butter and the mix of the various flavors together, it’s definitely a tasty treat, although I’m afraid it still can’t live up to the true, authentic Snicker’s bar.

I think this might be good with M&Ms instead of nuts, or other candy pieces as an alternative version. Additionally, I could see a S’mores version you could do too.

The nutritional facts above are only approximations.
