What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?
Thankfully I am, by nature, a pretty chill sort of guy. Much of that attitude in adversity for me can be tracked directly back to the death of my parents many years ago.
Sure, I have had moments where my Dad’s death while still in my teens could have brought me down and defined my outlook on life. But it didn’t.
Sitting next to my Mom’s hospital bed several decades later when she left this Earth to be in the arms of God – that could have brought me down and defined my outlook on life. But that didn’t either.
All of us as humans are forced to confront and deal with situations oftentimes out of our control, as well as other roadblocks that are the result of our own doing. The skill and attitude you adopt in the face of life’s daily challenges literally will make you or break you.
So that brings me to our subject today. What do I do to increase comfort in my daily life? There are several things I naturally do to be comfortable and happy.
Attitude is Everything
Having dealt with incredible loss early in my life, it sometimes feels like nothing could put a bigger chink in my armor than that. It’s a bit like the difference between a spring shower and a monsoon. After you’ve lived through the latter, the former just isn’t that hard to handle. My attitude tends to stay positive throughout my life. For me, the glass is normally half full.
Faith
Have you ever watched any primetime tv show and the main protagonist is confronted by someone where they speak about their personal faith and opinion on religion? Nearly every time that situation comes up, the script calls for a derivative of the statement, “Oh, I’m not really religious.”
My personal belief in the gift and grace that is found in Jesus Christ (thank you Mom) makes every day I live a joy. Because of his gift of salvation, I live my daily life in the comfort of knowing that eternal life has been bought and paid for me. I am truly blessed.
Family
We are social beings. I cannot imagine a less comfortable life than the deep loneliness of those who are alone in this world. My family laughs with me, cries with me, fills every day with a comfort that wouldn’t exist the same way without them. I hope you are as fortunate as I have been.
Music
If you have read my blog or know anything about me, you will know that one of my greatest enjoyments comes in listening to music. Whether it’s cleaning at home, working out, driving to the grocery store, or pulling weeds with the sun beating down on my back, you will always find me with earbuds plugged in and my favorite artists filling my ears and my soul with positivity, introspection, silliness, funky beats, and just pure happiness. As someone once said, “where words fail, music speaks.”
Sleep
My father-in-law always revels at how I can literally sleep anywhere. Whether I’m sitting in the hallway of a hospital on the floor or practically standing up against a wall, I can pretty much catch a few winks anywhere and anyhow. So many health-related conditions can be traced back to a simple lack of sleep. I firmly believe that simply getting a decent night’s sleep can make your comfort level on a daily basis soar.
A Sense of Order
When my now-grown daughter was a young child, I had a saying that I used constantly with her. Everything has its place. Without order, you have chaos. How can you be comfortable living in a state of chaos? Answer? You can’t.
Laughter
There’s something to be said for endorphins. They don’t say “laughter is the best medicine” for nothing. Home is just better when it’s a home filled with laughter and fun. Literally having fun with each other in your household creates a sense of harmony and reduces anxiety, worry, and stress.
Fitness
I’ve always enjoyed taking time out of my day to be active and (attempt) to stay fit. A wise person once told me that “you can’t outwork a bad diet”, so fitness and nutrition go hand in hand. With the multitude of options we have in America for fast food and junk food, it is hard to buckle down and be consistent with our food choices. Getting time outdoors and in the gym, while also monitoring and making the right decisions of what foods we choose (there are apps for that) makes life a bit less comfortable, but way more enjoyable!
Amazon Prime Day
Only kidding! It really only has a negative impact on my bank account. But it is the last hours of Prime Day, so if you are a shopper, be sure to use our link at the top of the page to help our site at no cost to you!
So, I’ve kept you reading about what I do to be comfortable through my daily life. Now it’s your turn? Let us know what you do differently to be comfortable in your own life. That’s what the comments are for (haha). Enjoy your (daily) life!
