TIMBALAND (FEATURING ONE REPUBLIC)
Moving 40 years into the future from our debut song reaction (The Doors’ “Soul Kitchen”) to 2007’s “Apologize” by rapper/producer Timbaland, working this time with One Republic on what would become One Republic’s breakthrough hit. At the time, the single broke records as the biggest radio airplay hit in the history of the Mainstream Top 40 chart in the United States, later dethroned by Leona Lewis’ debut single “Bleeding Love”. Reaching number 1 in 16 countries, the song remained in the U.S. top ten for 25 weeks, ranking number 10 on Billboard’s list of the Hot 100 Songs of the Decade. (Wikipedia)
As I noted on our first reaction post, most reaction videos on YouTube tend to be old hits that most people know already. With our channel, I plan to pinpoint songs from artists everyone knows, but to listen to the tracks I’ve missed or were out of my “pop music” genre I’d enjoyed for most of my life.
How did I land on “Apologize” for our next reaction? I searched for a list of the most popular songs of all time, and this single was listed at #71 on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time – Hot 100 Songs. The song title didn’t ring any bells of familiarity (I do recall “Counting Stars” by One Republic), so I thought this would be a perfect selection for today’s reaction.
